This is a residence for a family of three in Ota City.
This project was subject to rather tight restrictions on the site area, which increased the difficulty.
As the client owns a large car, we needed a structure that would support the upper section with a large overhang, but because it would be difficult to guarantee enough garage space with a wooden structure, we decided to use a mixed structure with reinforced concrete for the first floor and wood for the second and third floors.
The client’s greatest wish was to install a hot tub on the rooftop, which required the roof balcony to be as big as possible.
Also, as the client wanted a loft to increase the available storage space, the total floor area needed to reach the maximum that could be conceived from the area of the site.
To achieve this, we created a loft as a split level and also split the rooftop, thereby successfully fulfilling the client’s wishes.
The living room on the third floor has been realized by adding large openings, minimizing walls, and creating the greatest possible connection to the stairway to make the space feel several times larger than it actually is.
As the site is on a corner, we placed importance on the facades visible from both roads and gave them a sharp image using Galvalume panels.
Through a range of innovations, we resolved the conflicts between the site area and the client’s wishes, which are so often found in the middle of Tokyo, and managed to realize a fun, playful building.
