House Ichikawa is a two-household residence.
The site is a battle-axe block, but we were able to create a spacious plan thanks to the breadth of the block at the back. Because the clients asked us to retain the directional relationship with the rooms in the original old house, we arranged a living room with a large atrium on the southwestern side, and since they requested us to plan the client’s mother’s room in a well-lit position and her hobby is gardening, we planned a room on the southern corner, facing the garden.

We planned this project with innovations in the flow for housework so that the mother and the clients could perform housework smoothly, and we completely separated the main flow for using the bathroom and restroom from the housework flow towards the laundry and pantry. The clients informed us that their siblings and their families visit for regular annual events, so we thought it very important to separate the housework flow from the main flow.

The second floor is for the young couple and their family and has a living room, a children’s bedroom and a main bedroom, and a room for the couple’s hobbies. To allow the couple and the mother to sense each other so that they are not completely separate, while still ensuring them an appropriate level of privacy from each other, we have connected the two living rooms through the atrium.
We have planned with the aim of making a spacious residence and allowing the residents to sense each other and feel together as a family.
