This site is lower by about 5 meters from the main approach level, and is located in the middle of a slope. Although standard tactics had previously opened the south of the site and turned the opening of the living room to that side as much as possible, we decided to turn the living room and balcony to the north because the view of the slope is good, and it is also best for privacy considerations.
Since the level of the main approach is located almost at the same height as the second floor, there is public space, such as living-dining-room and entrance, on the second floor, and the private rooms, such as the bedrooms and bathroom, are located on the first floor. Therefore, the second floor is planned very openly, and has a feeling of expansiveness due to the view. When you go down the stairs to the first floor, which is the bedroom level, the space suddenly changes character to that of privacy. It is a scaled down, personal space.
On the first floor, we didn’t focus so much on space relations because privacy was the more important goal. So, we tried to establish contact between each bedroom and the exterior, such as by facing the yard, or the slope side with a nice view.
The vector of space is suitable inside. It was natural that the first floor should have different concepts than the second floor when we thought about the character of the site. The boundary of space is clarified more by giving static character to the individual space and a dynamic property to the shared space. As a result, the project resulted in a sense of comfort that each resident can change their feeling automatically by location, without stress.
